MARCH - APRIL 2008

OCEAN FREIGHT – Origin Charges

The Euro currency is gaining strength every day against the US Dollar. Today it touched the new record of Euro 1.00 equal to US $1.56 and analysts say that it will continue to rise. This problem is affecting trade from Europe to the USA and it’s strongly affecting rates. All origin charges are paid in Euro, while most quotes are in US$. In order to just recover our costs, we have to change all quotes for the Italian origin charges. The main points are the following:

Italian Origin Port THC - We are currently paying Euro 155.00/20’ and Euro 165.00/40’. We will be changing the billing to US$ 245.00/20’ and US$ 260.00/40’ respectively.
Italian Inland – >The Italian inland will also be changed according to the Euro exchange. In fact,  in all quotes we have noted that this expense is subject to change.
Bill Of Lading – Vessel lines raised the cost of the bill of lading, and the average pricing is now Euro 40.00 per B/L. This is now US$ 62.00 (we were billing US$ 50.00)
ISPS Fee – This charge has been increased from $18.00/container to $22.00/container.

Also, with the cost of crude oil rising (US$ 105.00 per barrel), the fuel surcharge for the US Inland prosecution has been going up, therefore you might see a slight increase on all inland deliveries.

FCL ROUTING via MONTREAL

Beginning March 1, DSR SENATOR has started to apply a slight increase on the terminal delivery to the Midwest of approx US$ 50.00 per container for the terminals of Chicago, Detroit, and Minneapolis.

Also, beginning April 1, the THC in Montreal will increase of US$ 20.00/20’ and US$ 25.00/40’. This will also affect the Midwest destinations.

AIR FREIGHT - Fuel Surcharge Increase / Security Surcharge Increase

Effective March 17th all Airlines will increase the fuel surcharge to ˆ 0.85 /kg. Some Airlines have also increased Security Surcharge to ˆ 0.17/kg. However, both charges are floating and subject to change.

PANAMA CANAL CHARGE INCREASE

Effective May 1st the Panama Canal Authority will implement an increase of the PCC (Panama Canal Charge) from the present $212.00/container to $247.00/container.
